Save the Date: 4R Summit to be Held June 12-13 in Minneapolis

We are pleased to announce that the 2017 4R Summit will be held June 12-13, 2017, in Minneapolis, Minn. The 4R Summit will be held at the Radisson Blu in downtown Minneapolis, and a block of rooms will be available at a group rate. Registration and hotel reservation information will be available in spring 2017.

2017 4R Advocates to Attend Commodity Classic

The 2017 4R Advocate winners represent five farmer and retailer partnerships who are leading the way in implementing 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices on the farm. This year’s advocates farm 13,200 acres of land using 4R Nutrient Stewardship practices. Each 4R Advocate pair will participate in an expense-paid trip to the upcoming Commodity Classic, March 2-4 in San Antonio, Texas. While at Commodity Classic, the advocates will represent the 4R program at the trade show and participate in various interviews.

4R Research: Science for Stewardship Session at TFI Annual Meeting

In coordination with Fertilizer Canada and the International Plant Nutrition Institute, TFI is hosting a one-hour session on Science for Stewardship to provide insight on current efforts funded through the 4R Research Fund. The session will be held at TFI's Annual Meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7th. All delegates are invited to attend to gain insights into what we are learning about the implementation of 4R practices and how the industry-funded effort is helping us understand the Science for Stewardship. We hope you can join us.

The 4Rs in Crop Nitrogen Research

Improved Nitrogen use efficiency can be achieved through combinations of Source, Rate, Time, and Place. A recent roundtable meeting identified as a goal “broadening the focus of applied research beyond N rate to move toward more integrated agricultural systems,” and cited the 4R Nutrient Stewardship approach as a step to help represent the complexity of the farming systems (Reimer et al., 2017). Research continues to broaden the focus of nutrient research to address the 4Rs and not solely application rate.

What Can Past Phosphorus Research Tell Us?

The 4R Research Fund was created to help establish sustainability indicators and environmental impact data for implementation of 4R Nutrient Stewardship across North America. Two of the projects that have been completed through the fund examined past Phosphorus research to answer larger questions about Phosphorus losses.
